HUNZA, June 08: World community observed envirnment day on Saturday,fifth June, 2010 with zeal as usual. Internally displaced Persons (IDPs) of Salmanabad, who have been accommodated at Girls Inter College, Karimabad, Hunza arranged a special walk to mark the day. Students, teachers holding playcards marched from the Karimabad, temporary relief camp to Khurukushal, Hyderabad and to Aga Khan Academy, Baltit to give people environment friendly messages.

Similarly, Town Management Society (TMS), Karimabad also arranged a walk that finally assembled into a formal function at famous Pologround Karimabad. Participants holding beners bearing environment protection appeals marched along civil society members, Ismaili gents and lady volunteers, boys scouts of Karimabad and Altit jurisdiction. Despite of numerous hurdles of Internally displaced Persons of Salmanabad at temporary relief camps, such activities will serve to give a positive message to every one of us to realize the responsiblity to care about environment.
HUNZA, Aliabad, April 21: The civil society members have called upon government to ensure safety of people on both sides of fifteen kilometers long artificial lake which has already submerged a large portion of Ayeenabad and Nazimabad settlements. A special meeting was held here in a local hotel to review relief operations to the affectees of the calamity hit areas. Speakers expressed their strong concerns about the possible destruction in case of outburst of lake saying besides lives of more than forty thousand people have endangered, there are chances of property loss in downstream areas in particular and settlements closed to river shores in general. According to FOCUS reports, it has installed precautionary alarm systems inthe settlements along the river passage in down areas; and currently about 19 cusec water is releasing from the seepage points of the lake.
HUNZA, Aliabad, March 27: Civil Society organizations have hailed the dicision of nomination of late Shehzad for 'Sitara-e-Juraat', the third biggest award of the country confered on for valour and remarkable word of individuals. According to the details, the non governmental humanitarian organizations as well as public secotr organizations busy in relief operations have nominated late Mr.Shehzad for the highest civil award for his unprecendented work for humanity. Mr. Shehzad, who died of critical injuries at the land disaster site following a rock sliding on 5th March was an active member of Shia Imami Ismaili Boys scouts, Aliabad chapter who dovoted most of his time for community work.

It is pertinent to tell our readers that National Disaster Management Authority has provided helicopters as an air lift facility to shift daily life necessities and facilitate moment of masses and commuters from Central to Upper Hunza, locked for more than twenty three days following the massive land slide tragedy. Government has provided compensation to every family affected in the disaster yet many have concerns on slow pace of work in release of water.
