Partcipants vows to initiate comprehensive collaborative efforts to eridicate Tiber Closis; 42 new cases identified during first two quarters in Hunza

HUNZA, Karimabad, September: Collaborative concious and comprehesive efforts are need of the hour to eridicate Tiber Closis, a silent killer in the region; Victims do not disclose the symptoms for T.B is considered as a mean and abominable disease in the society. These views were expressed by participants during a one day media adovacy session by T.B control unit under the banner of Advocacy Communication and Social Mobilization (ACSM) programme in collaboration with Aga Khan Health Services Pakistan (AKHSP) and few foreign NGOs here at a local hotle in Karimabad, Hunza on Wednesday. T.B control unit sought suggestions regarding new approaches, from media circles to implement initiative efficiently and effectively with in given periphery. Fida Nagri,social mobilizer T.B control unit shed light on efforts being done to keep the menace under control.Presenting his views, since last four years of its creation.Mr. Iftikhar Hussain said that those affected by this disease hardly disclose as it has had considered as abominable fatal disease. He emphasized to create more awarness through involving elders, scholars, writers, poets and other civil society members to educate general masses about the causes, affects and cure to disease.

Salman Khan and Sherbaz Kalim of Devako production vowed to support the cause through specific programmes, plays and drammas to highlight the disease and its in time cure especially through local cable net works in Hunza-Nager district. Amjad Hussain emphasized on a new approach- awareness at school level: children easily get the point and discuss that with their parents and there is larger chance of awareness than any other mean. Participants agreed to play their role through writings, presentations and debates in public in order to convince if any affected for cure.
Later Basharat Hussain delievered a detailed presentation on the current situation in Hunza-Nagar. According to the statistics shared here, following cases were identified in the district:

According to the medical experts on Tiber Closis, a German scientist Robert Koch discovered T.B virus for the first time in 1882. According to the WHO's findings, those with 1 lakh viruses containging within one milimiter level is said to be affected by the disease.

HUNZA, Karimabad, July 03: Contrary to the figures of the measurement by FOCUS, GNPWD, NESPak who reported still chances of surge in water level since spill over had claimed that water level recding since last week following the controlled dynamite blasting in boulders resisting flow of water over spill way. Talking to Readers Time, here at Karimabad Zafar Waqar Taj, deputy commissioner Gilgit-Baltistan said that all departments were red alert and monitoring the situation closely. He said that essentials like food and other relief items were supplied to the all Internally Displaced Persons in the temporary camps in Altit and Karimabad.He rejected the agitation from various circles of mishandling and mismanagement on part of local administration saying such were the propaganda of certain political elements. He said that efforts by certain elements to defame government's contribution in relief work would not work.
On the other hand, public circles in Gojal have condemned Home secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Asif Bilal Lodhi's statement in which he vowed to take legal action against those involved in opening of spill way by registering First Investigation Report in Gojal. They said, disaster hit people after disappointing from government's strategy to widen spill way have volunteerism initiated their own to escape further destruction. They have demanded of government to make efforts to widen the width by more controlled blasting on spill way.

Garelth-Karimabad new link road being constructed against approved plan; lack of funds disrupted construction work

HUNZA, Garelth, June 08: The approved plan of construction of Garelth-Karimabad new link road has been largely deviated by the contractor with the help of authorities of concerned department. According to details, the link road aimed to recede distance to Girls Inter College, Karimabad and to facilitate the lower Karimabad settlement was altered for unknown reasons.

According to the nearby residents, the work has stalled for many months due to lack of development funds.

The link road was planned to construct as an alternative truckable link to the main service road from Ganish to Krimabad would harldly prove beneficial as the turns at various places are vulnerable for heavy traffic with a considerable steep position.

Environment day celebrations-IDPs of Salmanabad arranged envrironment protection walk

HUNZA, June 08: World community observed envirnment day on Saturday,fifth June, 2010 with zeal as usual. Internally displaced Persons (IDPs) of Salmanabad, who have been accommodated at Girls Inter College, Karimabad, Hunza arranged a special walk to mark the day. Students, teachers holding playcards marched from the Karimabad, temporary relief camp to Khurukushal, Hyderabad and to Aga Khan Academy, Baltit to give people environment friendly messages.

Similarly, Town Management Society (TMS), Karimabad also arranged a walk that finally assembled into a formal function at famous Pologround Karimabad. Participants holding beners bearing environment protection appeals marched along civil society members, Ismaili gents and lady volunteers, boys scouts of Karimabad and Altit jurisdiction.
Despite of numerous hurdles of Internally displaced Persons of Salmanabad at temporary relief camps, such activities will serve to give a positive message to every one of us to realize the responsiblity to care about environment.

Aavalanche hits Karimabad and Altit, fog and icy winds engulfed area for half an hour

HUNZA,Karimabad, Feb.25: A huge avalanche sliding from Ultar peak hit Karimabad and Altit village at 9:00 A.M, engulfed area for half an hour.

According to the details, suddenly fog and icy wind appeared above Baltit Fort soon cover major portion of Karimabad and Altit. Consequently, the area on both side of Ultar Nalah or Harchi indigenously called received light snow fall. Nevertheless, no loss of property or life has been reported.
According to local myth, breaking of ice from high rise glaciers begets good future and hinder evil forces like poverty and diseases.

Magnificent Baltit fort- a legacy of Tibetan architecture shines in winter moonlights

HUNZA, Jan.30 : Magnificent Baltit Fort, a master piece of Tibetan architecture and Balti craftsmanship is lying on the top of Karimabad settlement, about 8000 feet above sea level in Hunza.

The fort was built about 700 years ago. Ghazanfar Ali Khan, Mir of Hunza donated it to Baltit Heritage Trust (BHT). Later, it was renovated by AKCSP and won UNESCO award in 2004. Baltit fort was a symbol of prestige of Hunza in feudal regimes and remained home of royal dynasty for many years. It continues to attract vistors even more in moon nights coming every year around the world.
