HUNZA, April 14: Governor Gilgit-Baltistan doctor Shama Khalid has said that her appointment is victory of democratic thought. She was accompanied by Speaker Gilgit-Baltistan Wazir Baig, Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah, Fida Karim president Pakistan Peoples Party , Hunza chapter Ali Khan, President PYO and other officials of police and civil administration were also present at the moment. Talking to delegations from different localities after visit to disaster hit areas here at Karimabad, she said that her priorities are to eliminate poverty and reduction in unemployment. She asked masses for cooperation in building confidence among communities in the region. She said that there are few people who want to create communal strife with an aim to disturb peace. " Inter communal faith harmony will harness rate of development, greater the cooperation larger the out comes," she added. Answering a question of journalists regarding increment in salaries of police and NAPWD, she promised to consider them in future.
Reply a question that what relief package the government has planned for Upper Hunza, she said that a special package is under way and about to announce within few days. She said that people of Hunza have a remarkable history saying their peace loving nature made them famous across the world. She asserted that it was Pakistan Peoples Party's democratic attitude that empowered an assembly which can now legilslate on various issues but also can have debate on budget. She also said that those who have borrowed loans from banks shall also hear about a relief package.

Later, talking to journalists, Syed Mehdi Shah, Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan said that the government is doing according to its capacity saying those who are uttering residing down in cities should avoid passing anti government statements. He urge people to reject rumors and come forward to help those in trouble.

Boat Service may prove vulnerable if boats were not repaired,life jackets substandared;

leakage of freezing water and blowing of downstream icy winds added troubles for travelers, female and children still awaiting for arrangements, FWO, NAPWD, FOCUS, Civil and Political administration and local volunteers doing their most to release blocked water

HUNZA, Attaabad, Feb. 17: The boat service that was inaugurated by Syed Mehdi Shah, Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan and Wazir Baig, Speaker GBLA along home secretary on Sunday is proving troublesome for travelers. According to details, the boat service started its operations recently has added troubles for the travelers due to leakage of water into substandard boats and life jackets being used as prevention measures. On the other hand, blowing downstream icy winds have added to the difficulties of the travelers. Children and Females stranded on both sides of blocked water are still waiting for arrangements to reach their destinations. Regional government and Civil administrtion of Gilgit Baltistan has sought boats with the help of NDMA to facilitate commuters to replace chopper service that already suspended due to bad climatic conditions. According to a FOCUS official, who on the conditions of anonymity said, the boats may prove vulnerable due to little relevance to the ecological circumstances adding special boats are required that could bear winds and have least possibility of overturning into water while traveling.

Frontier Work Organization (FWO), Northern Areas Power and Works Department (NAPWD), Focus Humanitarian Organization, Civil and political administration and local volunteer organizations are doing their most to release blocked water and to clear Karakorum High Way, with the available machinery, simultaneously. Nevertheless, little arrangements are made for officials and workers working on the side as disaster prevention measures for the sheered rocks on both sides can bring devastation.

HUNZA, Jan.28: (Shamsuddin Muahammad): According to an Urdu regional daily, Wazir Baig, newly elected speaker of Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly has said that the government was using its all resources to cope with the challenges following the disaster in Attaabad village. He claimed that re-opening of Khunjerab border aimed at assurance of provision of daily necessities in the besieged are of Upper Hunza due to blockade of KKH, the only land route that link both central and upper Hunza. He said that a delegation of local traders will be allowed to go to China to fetch the goods to the masses on affordable prices under the supervision of government departments.
